312 ANTIQUE SILVER GOBLET ,ELKINGTON 1879, OTIPUA NEW ZEALAND , LONG WOOLLED SHEEP PRIZE 1880

312 . Antique English silver goblet , hallmarked for Birmingham 1879 , with the makers mark of the celebrated Frederick Elkington . Full marks on the cup and part marks up under the base. Obviously quickly shipped to New Zealand , as it was presented in 1880. The inscription on one side reads  :  PRESENTED  /  BY   /  THE NEW ZEALAND   /  LOAN & MERCANTILE AGENCY COMPANY,   /   TO   /   THE LARGEST PRIZETAKER IN LONG WOOLLED SHEEP /    AT /  TIMARU A & R ( ? )  SHOW, 1880.  /   GAINED  BY P.H.RUSSELL. OTIPUA.    On the other side is depicted an extensive landscape with mountains , a lake with two sailing boats , the foreground with horses,  cows and sheep. Both areas are in the vicinity of Canterbury , South Island , New Zealand. My first piece of silverware relating to 19th century agriculture down under; a rare thing.
