322 ANTIQUE 1756 ENGLISH SILVER TROPHY CUP & COVER. NOT INSCRIBED.SUPERB !

Price £ 2450.00

Superb antique English silver trophy cup and cover , the cup hallmarked for London 1756, the cover for London 1754.  The marks to the cup are largely obscured by the later repousse decorations ! The marks on the cover are clear and from these can be seen that the makers mark is that of William Cripps. The overall height is 10.3" , the diameters , base 4.1' , cup top 5" and the handle width is 8.6". The weight is 1219 grams, 39.19 troy ounces . Thanks to the Victorians love of repousse  and other decorative features, this Georgian cup and cover is now a superb looking piece of antique silver ! Unless , of course , you are a lover of plain silver ! The inverted bell shaped cup body has an applied central band , extensive repousse decoration of foliage, flowers, gadrooning , with vacant cartouches back and front. The stem is short and flows down onto the spread base , which has repousse decoration complementing that on the cup body and the cover. The leaf capped handles are of C scroll design, with curled  button ends . The cover has more repousse decoration , gadrooning to the upper part and a pineapple finial. Not inscribed, both cartouches ready for your own inscription. The whole is a pleasure to behold ! It is , of course , in excellent condition.
