325 ANTIQUE,1788, ENGLISH SILVER WORSHIPFUL COMPANY OF BUTCHERS BY PODIO

325 .This  doesn't happen often! I found this rather good  ( ! ) antique silver trophy cup and cover,  hallmarked for London 1788 , the maker's mark that of Abraham Peterson and Peter Podio.  As you would expect , the hallmarks are up under the base , wonderfully clear. The cover hallmarks are on the skirt, and so are equally protected.   The overall height is 11.5" ,  base  3.5" square , cup top diameter 4.6", handle width 7.2". The weight is 754 grams, 24.24 troy ounces. Wonderful simple design , free of Victorian "beautifying" , but embellished with the superb crest of the Worshipful Company of Butchers. Needless to say , the whole is in excellent condition.
